Grand Rapids Community College provides information to students on their rights under FERPA on their website at www.grcc.edu/privacy and in the GRCC Catalog. In addition, GRCC mails a postcard to all enrolled students in the Fall and Winter academic semester which includes the web address where students may navigate to review their rights. A student may request a paper copy of their rights under FERPA from Student Records.
CELS 100 - Workforce Fridays: Basic Automotive Skills
Course Description
This program will introduce high school students to the automotive profession.
Students will have the opportunity to learn basic skills, including safety, teamwork and communication.
Automotive repair facility policies, procedures and safety will be discussed.
Students will be introduced to:
- Automotive brake
- Suspension
- Steering
- Alignment
- Electrical
- Heating/Air conditioning
- Engine and transmission systems
Training will be provided in a combination of classroom activities, online manufacturer specific training and hands-on instruction using advanced tools, equipment and facilities.
Introduction to Automotive:
This course will include Introduction/Shop Safety and communicating effectively with others using automotive terminology. Licensed technicians will use precision diagnostic equipment, service manuals and hands-on power tools to provide high tech, timely and quality service.
Wages range from $16-$20/hr. in west Michigan.
Students will have the opportunity to earn this credential as part of this program:
Employer recognized GRCC Basic Automotive Skills Certificate
Our goal is for students to learn the introductory skills needed for a career in automotive and if they choose to pursue a career in this field to get entry level work in the industry.
The program is designed to be delivered 80% with hands-on, active training; 20% traditional classroom learning.
Attendance is a very important component of the program.
We strive to replicate the work environment as much as possible in an educational setting.
