Course Description

A career serving your community is at your fingertips. Don't miss this opportunity to enter the field of public works!

Public works employees are vitally important in our communities, and in great demand across West Michigan. Municipalities are looking for people who are passionate about improving the lives of those around them.

The need is great, communities have partnered with Grand Rapids Community College to develop a hands-on learning experience that prepares people for great careers and opportunities in public works.

Students will be paid for the time spent working with their employer municipality (Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays). Classes will also be embedded into this program including CDL preparation where you'll gain the experience to earn your Commercial Learner's Permit, Green Infrastructure and Public Works Foundations, all of which is included in your registration fee.

Participants in the Public Works Academy will interview with multiple municipalities (employers include: City of Grand Rapids, City of Wyoming, City of Kentwood, City of East Grand Rapids and Kent County Road Commission) to determine their best-fit internship placement location.
